Intervention Program

What is an Intervention program?

An intervention program has been defined as the process wherein family members, friends, and loved ones confront an individual about their substance addiction issues and their self-destructive behavior patterns.  These not only damage the individual at the emotional, mental, and physical levels, they impact the people around them.  The goal of any intervention program is two-fold with the first part of the process being that the addicted individual admits that they are truly hurting themselves and all the people around them.  Additionally, the second part of the intention is to get the individual into a treatment and recovery center as quickly as possible.

Different Types of Intervention Programs

Granted, conducting an intervention is the most effective method for family members, friends, and loved ones to utilize when helping an individual who is suffering with an addiction problem.  However, addictions do not always revolve around alcohol and drugs (i.e. substance addiction).  What most people don’t realized is that there are also what are known as behavioral addictions.  These include addictions to:

  • Computer and video games
  • Gambling
  • Psychological disorders (e.g. Depression, OCD, etc.)
  • Porn and Sex

How to Choose the Right Intervention Program

Finding the correct intervention program to help the individual in question can be a challenging task because there are so many of these programs available.  The following are 4 steps that will help you choose the intervention program that best suits the addicted individual in question:

Step #1 – Check to make sure that the facility has an intervention program that targets the needs of the addicted individual.  It is imperative that you decide on a program that would be most beneficial to the addicted individual’s needs.  Remember that once the intervention is completed, that treatment and recovery will hopefully begin.  This necessitates ensuring that there is the proper collaboration of counselors and medical professionals that will work well with the addicted individual.

Step #2 – Cost factors can vary considerably, so it is critical to consider budget factors as well.  Naturally, the specific needs of the addicted individual will determine what type of intervention program to pursue.  Additionally, you need to take the cost of treatment and recovery into consideration.

Step #3 – Does the recommended treatment and recovery program offer medical based options or natural ones? Some programs utilize a regimen of prescription drugs during the detox portion of treatment and recovery, while others use more natural methods.

Step #4 – Look for a treatment and recovery program (recommended by the interventionist in most cases) that allows family members, friends, and loved ones to participate in the treatment and recovery program.  If the intervention program ends successfully, the addicted individual will hopefully enter a treatment and recovery facility immediately.  It is recommended that you choose one that allows these individuals (above) to participate with the addicted individual.
